The patina of Life Minds coming of age Spiral Sea dedicates its efforts to sharing ideas, in many guises, between inquiring minds. A good tool is worth little if left in an untrained hand. We had our beginnings in people who worked every day with the tools of scientific research, engineering, medicine, psychology, sociology, architecture, advertising, education, homemaking... you name it, our members have done it.   Like you, we resisted the tendency of modern society to pigeon-hole us, to fasten us with the stick-pins of routine and convention into the sorting bins of cultural stagnation. We never stopped learning, nor thinking, nor worrying that hard-earned lessons might not be passed on, that valuable insights into the nature of our existence--what we were, what we are, what we could become--might be lost.   Our Readership (see CONNEXIONS), world-wide in scope, drives the constant expansion of areas addressed by The SPIRAL SEA. With the world as our oyster, you may expect a commensurately wide range of viewpoint, opinion, and subject matter---and of course, a bit of controversy.			TRUE TERRAFORMING   PASSING ON NON-GENETIC INFORMATION   Experience-Understanding-Commitment Attitude counts for a lot in an organism's quest for biological success. A winning, can-do approach to life is just as important as having the tools and skills to get a job done. At least, that is the impression we humans draw about ourselves, and some of our animal relatives.   What makes intelligence think it might succeed in the long-term survival game? We've heard of "selfish genes" and "altruistic genes." Might there be room for "confident genes?" Take a look at our TECH CORNER department for articles and discussions with a technical slant. Topics include current problems and possible solutions to some of the vexing challenges our planet's species are facing; future obstacles we have yet to face; and very-long-range considerations of social, biological, cybernetic, geophysical, stellar, and galactic natures. WRITE US or e-mail us with your own perceived problems or solutions. We will gladly consider your contributions for inclusion in future issues, and will forward your ideas to others for their input as well. Topic suggestions will be addressed by our editors and panel experts, and some will be chosen for development and online presentation. Your continued participation is invited. Contributed stories, articles and artwork will be reviewed for appropriateness, accepted or rejected, and their status communicated speedily to the authors and artists. Accepted works will be minimally edited for inclusion, with credit to authors and artists, then published to their assigned issues to pass along your thoughts and creations to others. Paying the bills As with any enterprise providing a service to its practicioners, Spiral Sea achieves its global presentations through the use of modern technology. In support of making that means available to our authors and artists, we pay the bills--in part through earnings from our Catalog of relevant products and services offered by ourselves, our members, and a select few outside parties.
