NanoTechnology

Nanotechnology. What is it? How will it affect our lives? I’m certainly not an expert on Nanotechnology, but I am an expert when it comes to dreaming about it. The very thought that we are possibly only years away from having a machine that can take matter and reorganize it into something else at the molecular level is astounding. That’s what Nanotechnology is, or how I understand it. My imagination runs wild…
Once the first Nanotechnology machine is built, it can replicate itself, reducing the time and cost it would take to reproduce it with today’s current technology.
Star Trek here we come! Will we have the technology in a few decades to actually create replicators? Will they be able to create food from a bag of dirt, the air, and some water in a matter of minutes?
What are the implications Nanotechnology might have on the medical industry? Will future operations be done by NanoMachines that can wipe out a virus by changing its molecular structure? What about restoring a lost leg or a lost eye? Will the blind then see? Will the deaf then hear? Will the lame walk?
What about space travel? Broken equipment can be regenerated and replaced. Could a starship bound for Mars take the material on mars, send it through the NanoMachine and have fuel for the return trip come out?
A whole new industry will be born, a whole new career field. A whole new world in my eyes. And from what I’ve read on the internet, it might be here in less than 10 years. I’m definitely not certain to what degree it will be available at that time. I doubt my imagining above will be available, but to see it happen in my later years would be fantastic.
But don’t take my word on any of this, okay? I don’t know the first thing about Nanotechnology. Check out the links below if you want to see more. I hope I have at least sparked some interest in you. Who knows? Maybe you and I will find careers in Nanotechnology in the next couple of decade and work side by side. I’ll write the program that creates pizza…just throw the rocks in the Nanomachine! See ya, Roundtable.
These two links ought to give you plenty of stuff about NanoTechnology. Check out the first one, it's the best one I've found!
