Editor's Note

October-November 1998

Another issue of Titan has arrived, and I am once again proud of the stories that appear in this issue.  The feedback we have received from readers over the past year has been encouraging.  The quality of the stories we publish is steadily rising, and that makes competition for publication in our pages fierce.  We like that. Such competition will spawn better stories and hopefully generate better readers.  But I won't go into this here.  You can read all about rejection and competition in our Science Corner this month.  It is titled The Science of Rejection.  Take a look!

The short stories in this issue are As Luck Would Have It by Steve Lazarowitz, Twenty-First and Fifty by Jack Egan, The Theft of the Super Raider by H. Lee Parten, and Mare Tranquillitatis by Kate Thornton.  All in all, I am proud of the lineup!

Jack Egan's story is simply fantastic.  Read it.  Now.

H. Lee Parten's story is simply fantastic.  Read it.  Now.

Steve Lazarowitz's story is simply fantastic.  Read it.  Now.

Kate Thornton's story is simply fantastic.  Read it.  Now.

Got the picture?

As for Storm Jumper by James Jordan, it will appear in our next issue.  In our Things To Come section from our last issue, we wrote that this story would appear in this issue of Titan.  Permission from the L. Ron Hubbard's Writers of the Future Contest is still pending.  Once we receive permission to re-publish Storm Jumper, it will appear in Titan.

Also in this issue, we welcome Vincent Asaro to Titan as a permanent book reviewer.  Look for his insightful reviews in every issue of Titan.  This issue he reviews Roverandom:  Let Sleeping (Toy) Dogs Lie by JRR Tolkien.  Also reviewed in this issue are Beneath the Vaulted Hills by Sean Russell.  That review was written by Jody Speight, Titan Editor extrordinaire.  I myself have also written a review of The Arm of the Stone by Victoria Strauss.  I must take a second and beg you to read my review and then either buy the book right here from Titan or go down to the local bookstore and pick up a copy.  This book is not one to miss and deserves your full attention.  It was simply a stunning book.

Also check out our Things to Come section for what's coming to Titan in our next issue.

And, of course, take a minute to check out our bookstore.

Enjoy!
